Book Corner: Moving toward adulthood with I Graduated. Now What? by Amanda McLaughlin

Imagine graduating from four years of high or college only to discover that the hard work of truly being something for yourself has only begun! And you don’t know where to start.

Their time in high school and college teaches our kids many things, but rarely in these spaces are they taught the adulting and life skills that we will need as they move to a life of greater independence.

I Graduated. Now What? written by Amanda McLaughlin PhD, is a terrific resource for young people and their parents alike and should be included in every graduation gift bundle.

This slim book breaks down so many essential adulting skills including managing personal finances, getting a job, attending to one's physical and mental well-being, setting goals and staying motivated in the face of adversity. There is even a list of laundry “dos and donts!”

The sections are short, clearly organized and easy to read and include helpful checklists.

We particularly love the section on healthy personal relationships, a topic we often forget about because we assume these will happen naturally on its own.

Parents, this is a book that you can give to your kids and have them read it on their own as they need… and it’s also a great resource for you to hold on to so that you have a framework for conversations that will keep your young person moving forward on the road to independence!

Give it a read and tell us what you think.

And set up a free consultation with us to learn how we can help if your kid needs some help figuring out what comes next for them after graduating from high school or college.
